“A new concept is on the way. We have to plan carefully, as the sea helps capture more carbon than any other source. Mangroves will be first on the list.”

Mangroves are trees that thrive in saltwater, unlike almost all other plants. Sri Lanka is a mangrove hotspot with 22 species flourishing along its coasts, deltas, and lagoons.

The tsunami experience wasn’t the only factor in the decision. Mangrove forests help create healthy seas because they act as nurseries for fish, prawns, crabs, and other marine animals that breed among the trees’ stilt-like roots.

They also play a significant role in combating the climate crisis because they have carbon-storing superpowers, locking down more carbon than a terrestrial forest of the same size.

Mangroves weren't always recognized. They typically occupy prime coastal real estate, and as a consequence, two-thirds of the world’s mangroves have been lost.

So, we start with fishermen who live near coastal areas. We will collaborate with the local government and allocate small pieces of land where local fishermen can grow mangroves and gain access to funds from both the Code Blue Project and carbon credits.

The monitoring system for this project will be different. Half of the donation will be granted in the initial stage (after planting the trees). In the second stage, the full grant will be released with full interest after two years. The second stage donation will be saved under Sri Lankan government T-Bills, T-Bonds, or any government-registered bank fixed deposit. under famers name and code blue project. Once they mature, participants can access the full grant. However, the farmer or participant must demonstrate that they have maintained the project according to Code Blue guidelines. The same concept will be applied to carbon credits.

The benefit of this methodology is to establish transparency and integrity in the carbon credit market(Including code blue project), preventing issues like "ghost credits" and double-counting. This approach ensures that the carbon credits are legitimate and that the market is not exploited. If the farmers does not full fill the project requirement either they have to start from the beginning or allocate those resource to another farmer to stablish new farm. so there will be 100% trust for both donator as well as organisation who willing to buy for carbon offset.
